Welcome to KRL Reviews & News, a California online magazine with a focus on the San Joaquin Valley and beyond. One of our goals is to connect people to their community by sharing stories about local entertainment, events, ministry and community service opportunities, our schools, local leaders and so much more. Since our readership has now expanded way beyond the San Joaquin Valley, we also have entertainment, literature, food and pet articles that appeal to anyone no matter where they live. We have a very strong mystery section and a growing fantasy/horror section as well, where we feature not only reviews of all sorts and author interviews, but also short stories.

For our local articles, we will include as many of the small towns that dot the landscape along the Kings River in the San Joaquin Valley of California as possible, while also including entertainment articles from the larger cities like Fresno and Visalia & throughout much of California. We heartily support the arts and their importance in our lives and wish to provide not only exposure to local artists but to make people in the area aware of the many opportunities to enjoy and support the arts right here in our Valley, without having to travel to San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Kings River Life, and it's sister sites, were created by local journalist and published mystery author Lorie Lewis Ham who has been a part of this area for 50 years. With the help of many wonderful Valley area contributors and San Francisco webmaster Dorian Rhodes, this online magazine was launched on May 29, 2010.

If you are a part of the communities surrounding the Kings River or just love books, theatre, movies, TV, food and pets, this is the place for you!

New articles are added every Friday and Saturday, with other special articles added during the week, so check back often.

Mission/Value Statement:

These statements are here to help you our readers, interested parties, and potential advertisers know more of our DNA and who we are at KRL.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to entertain, inspire, and inform a global community with a unique variety of articles that provide something of interest for everyone, while supporting the arts, literature, charities, mental health, and animal rescue. Also, to eventually reach the goal of being able to pay our loyal and hard working staff for their efforts for KRL and provide enough of an income for its owners to be able to make it their primary focus.

Vision Statement:

We are a California magazine with local focus and global appeal, along with a desire to entertain, inspire and inform with a unique variety of articles that provide something of interest for everyone.

Values & guiding principals
:

1. Our first responsibility is to our reader to provide a quality product which adheres to our vision to entertain, inform and inspire.
2. Our responsibility to our staff is to be a team who works together to encourage and support one another not only in our work at KRL but also where possible outside of KRL by supporting each other's businesses, charities and artistic endeavors. And in regards to KRL to promote and read each other's articles where possible.
3. Our focus is on relationships: with each other, our readers, our advertisers, our community, our planet, and the arts.
4. To strive to be a green company, starting with being online only thus saving paper.
5. To never lose sight of our primary focus to make a difference with our content, while at the same time providing quality entertainment.
6. To donate 10% of all advertising income to animal rescue so that we are not only making a difference for animals by informing and educating through articles, but also in a tangible way and eventually extend that to other charities.

SUBMISSIONS:
Any writers interested in submitting either articles or photography to be considered for publication in the Kings River Life Magazine, please contact the publisher, Lorie Lewis Ham, via our submission email at krlmagazine[at]gmail[dot]com or the contact form below. Submissions also encouraged from teens. We are also very interested in local events (San Joaquin Valley), so please send us your press releases as well, as much in advance as possible–note they are usually added to the site at the beginning of a week. We have an event calendar, local links, and event pages. We also have a mystery event page for events taking place anywhere within the US that are mystery related.

Though a California magazine, we are expanding as we have seen our readership is growing across the country so with the exception of local coverage, we will now consider submissions from any writer no matter where they reside, especially in the areas of mystery/fantasy short stories and reviews, food & pets. We prefer that short stories not be longer than 2000 words, but longer stories may be considered. We prefer articles not be more than 1000 words. For more information on submitting please contact us at the above email address. We do accept reprints as long as it has been at least several months since the story/article was first published.

Another area we are now accepting submissions for is our new Rodent Ramblings category–we will consider short story and article submissions that include rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs. For more information please email us at the above address.

At this time, there is no monetary compensation for any submissions, but all authors/photographers may include a link to either their website or blog. Frequent contributors may also qualify to receive ad space on this website. Kings River Life Magazine retains first publication rights (or, in some cases, second or third) for all contributions for 90 days from the publication date (in some cases longer), after which the author is free to reprint their submission elsewhere if credit is given to Kings River Life for publication of the item. However, some exceptions can be made upon request from the author.

Please include a three sentence bio, including age and school for teens or your website/blog for anyone 20+, to accompany the article if it is accepted.

Advertising in KRL!

Note: 10% of all advertising money will go to one of several animal rescues--Cat House On The Kings in Parlier, Animal Rescue of Fresno, Valley Animal Center, Fresno Bully Rescue, Feral Paws Rescue Group, or Rattie Ratz in Clayton. (All in California) You can choose which rescue, or we can choose for you.

Average readership is approximately 8000-10,000 unique users per month. Approximately a third of those are in Fresno and the surrounding communities all the way south to Visalia—with the largest of those audiences being Fresno. Approximately two thirds are California-with the top readership outside of the Valley being Los Angeles and San Francisco. The top states besides CA are New York and Texas, and the rest of our readers are spread out across the country, and in the UK and Australia.

The following ads are on the sidebars and visible on all pages, however they do not go through on feeds:

144 x 144 button ad provided by advertiser ready to go-$55 a month or 125 x 125 for $45 a month. This is probably our best selling and most popular ad. To purchase the prime spot with this ad near the top of the page, add an extra $10 a month.

144 x 400 vertical long button ad on far right sidebar- $65 a month or 125 x 400 vertical button on first sidebar for $55 a month.

If you cannot provide your own ad we have an ad designer that will design one for you for a one time $20 fee as long as the ad does not change and advertiser provides logo or artwork ($40 if we have to create artwork)—with 2 revisions. Later this year we hope to be working with a graphics company who will also offer more ad design services--though at much higher rates. Links however can be easily changed without an extra fee. All ads include a link to your website/Facebook page.

Other advertising options:

Banner ad at the bottom of an article height 125 x width 400 $15 per ad if sent in ready to go. This ad may remain at the bottom of this article indefinitely unless otherwise requested—but for sure at least for a year. One of the advantages of internet publishing. (this is a great option for mystery writers as it can go at the bottom of one of our mystery articles)

Or you can purchase the same ad to appear in every article in your chosen category for a month-prices vary by category. The current rates for our top 3 categories are as follows: $45 for A & E, $55 for mystery and pet (these are our most widely read categories). This is a great choice for these categories because we do a lot of these within a month. If you are purchasing multiple months we can offer a discount on the top categories.

If you decide to go with the banner ad, pick a section that best fits your audience-most of our other categories are $30 a month. If you are looking to include an audience outside of the Fresno area-our mystery and pet articles bring in readers all over the US, as well as some of our non mystery book, movie & CD review and food articles. Some articles crossover into more than one section, and banner ads will go through on the feeds.

Primary Categories include:

Books & Tales (there are sub categories on this and the above prices are for those sub categories, however you can request a quote for the entire section)
Community
Teen Talk
Arts & Entertainment
Food
Pets
Mental Health
(there are also other categories & subcategories and some monthly columns)

We suggest you browse the categories to make sure you pick the one best suited for your ad.

We feature articles from throughout the Fresno/Visalia areas with a strong current focus on Reedley, secondary on Sanger. In the entertainment section there is a heavy focus on Fresno and Visalia—this is always expanding. Again, our mystery market & some regional reviewers & food articles, our pet articles, and our new rodents/pets sub category are read nationwide and some are even ad in other countries. We also have a special teen section, which is constantly evolving.

Special Note: We can also offer combination specials on bottom of the article banner ads and a sidebar ad together at a special price. If interested, ask for a quote.

Ad prices are subject to change at any time and we will be offering specials off and on.

Note: All ads can be linked to your website/Facebook or Amazon page.

Publisher's note: We reserve the right to turn down any ad, or ad placement, that we deem not to be appropriate. We also often offer special discounts if you run your ad for multiple months--just ask.
